Summer Guitar Class for Young Musicians (July 17th-July 24th)
Students will journey together through the Magical Musical Tour guitar book 1, which offers a fun approach to learning how to play the guitar, as well as introducing the fundamentals of music. This introductory course will include learning to play guitar on the open strings, how to read guitar tablature, playing on the fret board, and how to play basic power chords. The Magical Musical Tour will be taught by Tracy Welsh who has been teaching guitar in Lake and Orange county schools since 2008, and also at Kids’ College, held at Lake Sumter State College, since 2014.
This ‘Next Step’ guitar class applies to children from age 7 thru 14, and it adapts well for all ages and abilities.
- July 17th thru July 27th (Monday -Thursday..NO FRIDAYS from 4:30-6 pm) with an in class concert on Thursday the 27th after class at the studio. Summer classes would need to be a minimum of 7 kids, and a maximum of 14 in a class.
- Cost: $150 and a $15 registration fee will be used to cover a book (extra picks, spare strings, and any extra photocopies for students.)
Requirements: An acoustic guitar. Our instructor would recommend that if you are purchasing, look for the Yamaha JR 1 or a similar model. It is 3/4 size and suitable for most elementary students aged 7 -10 years. It’s available on Amazon or a local music store like Cornerstone Music in Clermont, which may be able to ‘rent’ out guitars. Ages 11 years and up would need a full size/ student guitar. It’s recommended that older students are fitted for a guitar.
If a student already has a classical style guitar or an electric guitar, it will be fine to use in class to learn the basics.
If you are interested in the Summer class, please visit our registration page, and you will be contacted once we have enough students.
All classes will be held at our studio: 305 North US Highway 27 Suite D-Minneola, 34715

Mrs. Tracy Welsh has been teaching Next Step Guitar classes in Lake and Orange County schools since 2008. She has also spent the last 3 summers introducing elementary and middle school students to the joy of playing guitar at Lake Sumter State College’s Kids’ College program. Originally from England, she started playing the guitar at the age of 10 when a teacher used his lunch hour to teach students guitar. She immediately loved the instrument and took lessons in classical guitar for 8 years. After moving to the United States in 1997, Mrs. Welsh played acoustic guitar in a worship band for 10 years, and is currently serving as Praise Team Leader at Edge United Methodist Church. In 2012 she completed an on-line certification course in Specialist Guitar Skills with Berkley College of Music.
